Week 4, 4/27/11

After analyzing your main character in a closer manner, you should now be able to compare and contrast that character with the main character from the class read. In an H-chart or in paragraph form, compare and contrast these two characters. Determine which one you identify the most with and why.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain is what I am still reading.Tom Sawyer and Ben have almost no similarities. They are completely different people. But they do have some similarities. One similarity is they both make an impact on people, for example, Ben has created a new method of teaching and it has made an impact on his students so much that they are starting to take this method seriously. Tom has made an impact because when he ran away from home to become a pirate his aunt and his brother missed him very much. Another similarity

Week 3 4/19/11

Week 3 RR? - Understanding my character(s)
(Be sure to include quote and page number!!)
You must use at LEAST 2 quotes from the book.
Understanding your character is a good way for you to really get into your book and see from another person's perspective. In your response this week, describe your character. Think about and discuss:
-1. your main character's personality
- 2. how they act/behave
- 3. what they look like
- 4. how old they are
- 5 what sort of education do you think that they have
- 6 who their friends and family are
- 7 what their financial (money) situation is
- 8 and what their job is (if they have one).

I am sill reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. My character is a lazy person and he also hates to do any work. He seems ambitious to go on adventures, he is also very emotional at times, "Tom's mind was made up now. He was gloomy and desp

Week 4 #2

Week 4 11.29.10 - 12.3.10
We've been looking and studying how we relate to our characters and the real world around us. Now it's time to put yourself into your character's shoes. Thinking about the main character of your book, consider what you would do in their situation.  1. What would your reactions be? 2. How would you handle the situation? 3. What would you do differently?

My book is Houdini by Clinton Cox

If I were in my characters shoes I would react differently to peoples responses to challenges that I have requested, for example, When Houdini asked a medium to join him on the stage and she refused, he blew up!, where as I would instead comely ignore the reply and move on. Another thing I would do is when Houdini damages himself and starts urinating blood, I would retire right away, but instead he just kept on going with his shows tell he died.

Week 2 4/8/11

Review the book description found on the back cover of your book. Using the information, and this information alone, construct two alternate titles for the book that appeal to you.Pick one of the two titles and create a catch phrase and movie poster. Describe (using language that will explain what you are talking about so that we can "see" it) the movie poster to sell the new titled novel.

I am still reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. The book description is just a paragraph from the book but I can still work with it.

Alternative tile 1: The whitewashed fence

Alternative tile 2: Melancholy upon his spirit

The catch phrase that would fit my book is: "The boy who hates work".

For the movie poster I would have a partiality whitewashed fence in the front with some of the characters of the book whitewashing it as Tom Sawyer is sitting down on the right side of the poster with a cat and other objects such as a marble around him. There would be a house in the background behind the fence in witch you can see in a window and you can faintly see Tom's aunt reading a book in the background. You could see the sun beaming light down on to the ground and could see the grass behind the fence. the words for the poster would be over the house and would also be a mustard green color in the title. The catch phrase would be in the same mustard green color and in the same font as the title but would be in the bottom middle of the poster and it would be much smaller then the title as well.

The tile I would choose would probably be Melancholy upon his spirit because it fits the poster best.

Week 1 - March 17-18, 2011 Qtr4

Give the title, author, publisher, copyright date, genre (how do you know the genre - from the back of the book, the title page, the text?), a description of the cover of the book, and the main character(s) you have met so far and on what page you first met them.

I am reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. This was published by Hartford, Conn. The copyright date was 1876 and the genre is realistic fiction. I know this is the genre because it is about something that could have been done in real life but has  fictional characters.

The cover of this book seems to be a nice day with a lake or pond and some books laying next to "Tom Sawyer" who is relaxing under a tree in the daytime, and the book says Tom Sawyer in big letters where as "The Adventures of" are a little smaller. It also says "with connections" on the front as well.

The main character so far is only Tom Sawyer who I met on the very first page of the book. There are other characters that come close like Huckleberry Finn who I met on page #42. "Say, Hucky, when you going to try the cat. Another main character is Tom's aunt who I also met on page #1.
